Trauma training for homeless count 2020: (In collaboration with Dr. Ben Henwood, USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck Peck School of Social Work and his team) Specific Activities:  Helped to plan and coordinate a four-hour training to provide orientation and preparation for outreach workers who conduct demographic surveys; Developed content to teach about impact of past trauma, trauma triggers in street outreach, and coping strategies; Facilitated key sections of the training.

Homelessness Prevention Program Development: Brenda developed and piloted a new educational intervention for adult Black women, known as the WISER Women’s Economic Support Program, to prevent future housing instability for women in their senior years. (Piloted in collaboration with the HOPICS Homeless Services Organization and funded by the FHLB San Francisco under sponsorship of Beneficial State Bank. Specific Activities: Created a curriculum using participatory action research with key stakeholders; secured funding for a pilot and used it to develop a Financial Education Manual, based on client feedback.

Collaboration with the Community Response System of South Los Angeles (CRSSLA); Joined in March 2020 and continued through present to support development and implementation of a community network designed to expand resources for COVID 19 including food, testing, vaccines, education, public health, and community education, Specific Activities: Advisor to community leadership team, recruited and supervised over two dozen USC Master of Public Health students to work on projects including care calls, communications, and research to build, promote, and evaluate network capacity.
